Case study: Monarch Chemicals 

The client: 

Monarch Chemicals are a chemical distribution company with re-packing, blending and dilution facilities.  

With sites across the UK, they provide a fully integrated service connecting the country with chemicals. 

The challenge: 

Distribution sites experienced spills and produce run-off water, whilst washing of containers all needed treating prior to discharge to drain. 

Due to an old pH correction system, a particular client site was having issues with meeting consent to discharge.  

With increasing pressure to meet new more stringent limits, a new wastewater treatment solution was required.  

The solution: 

After being contacted by the client via our website, Aqua Advice conducted several sets of laboratory trials to identify the most suitable treatment plant.  

We analysed the samples for for contaminants as per site requirements/consent to discharge to ensure proposed solution meets the consent to discharge. 

Based on our findings, we designed a new treatment solution that included:  

• Coagulation 

• pH control 

• Flocculation 

• Serpentine 

• Settlement  

• Sludge dewatering with filter press 

• Filtrate with auto analysis 

• Carbon filtration with sodium hypochlorite dosing and ultraviolet for advanced oxidation
