A household name, Müller Milk & Ingredients operates 11 dairies across the country, supplying around 30% of Britain’s fresh milk.

The challenge

The client was looking to for a new ways to support their sites in the operation of their effluent treatment plants.

This has included:

• Technical support and advice to avoid the use of tankers when there were issues with the operation of the plants.
• Review of effluent plant operations
• Assisting in writing of operations and technical manuals for the plants

Site audit & assessment:

Firstly, working in collaboration with site teams, we reviewed the group’s effluent treatment plant and provided a report detailing the issues affecting treatment processes.

Secondly, we used the report to identify areas for improvement and obtained costs for these improvements.

Effluent treatment plant design

Aqua Advice will advise on the design of new effluent plants and any effluent plant upgrades that are required.

The effluent plants combine several technologies including:

• Screening and balancing
• Coagulation and flocculation
• Biological treatment
• Control and monitoring
• Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis – allowing water re-use
• Sludge dewatering

Ongoing operations and maintenance

Once the new treatment plants were operation, we carry out regular reviews of their performance, providing technical support when necessary.

Furthermore, we assist with operations and provide staff training, whilst helping with effluent treatment development and attending the group’s effluent plant forums.
